Disclosure

Affiliate disclosure

This site contains affiliate links and may earn a commission when you buy through them, at no extra cost to you.

What that means

Some outbound links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and go on to buy something, the retailer may pay this site a commission. You pay the same price you would have paid anyway; the commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your wallet.

How it is labelled

Advertising units on this site carry a visible label above them. Affiliate links are marked in the page source with rel="sponsored nofollow", which is the machine-readable version of the same disclosure and tells search engines not to treat them as editorial endorsements.

Links to government agencies, universities, standards bodies and non-profit research organisations are citations, not advertising. Those are ordinary outbound links, and no money changes hands over them.

What it does not affect

The directory is generated from open place data by rule. Businesses cannot pay to be listed, to rank higher, to be described differently, or to have a competitor removed, and no listing is an affiliate link. The calculators run entirely in your browser and are not tuned to make any product look better than the arithmetic says it is.

FTC

This disclosure is made in line with the US Federal Trade Commission's guidance on endorsements and testimonials in advertising, which requires affiliate relationships to be disclosed clearly and conspicuously. The FTC publishes that guidance at ftc.gov.
